of Splash / Sector One
by The Beast / Typhoon
- WHAT'S YOUR NAME?
David Carrère alias Splash.
- HOW OLD ARE YOU?
Errr.. to latest news, I am 24 years old.
- WHAT IS YOUR PSEUDO, YOUR CREW(S), YOUR FUNCTION(S)?
My pseudo, well one saw him (I would not give the origin here, but say that it
is a shape of self-mockery). My group, it is Sector One. My function it is
technical support, DSP programming and 68030, and layer of feebler ideas, but
quite useful for demos! :)
- CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF (PHYSICAL ASPECT, CHARACTER...)?
Let's say that I am a big thin with a cut Afro style Jackson Five (an apple
tree, what!). No, I fool around, in fact I have a pretty baldness. Of character
I like to fool around, to say craps, to make craps, and not to take me
seriously. But this is not because one doesn't take himself seriously that one
cannot be serious...
- WHAT IS YOUR JOB?
I don't have some again, I look for one of it in my main expertise domain: her
botany and the ecology.
- WHAT DO YOU MOST ENJOY IN LIFE?
Hey well... life exactly, since it is this marvelous mechanism that fascinates
me and that pushed me to study the biology. That decorated beast, but every day
I am pleased to be in life... I would have been able very well to finish in
stone, or worse, in compatible PC. Brrrr! I like as plants - however not as the
bitnic of distorts it pub of Les Nuls ;) And then one is going not there to
pass of hours but say that music, the sport, the love, him data processing, the
countryside, the friendship, her good grub, concerts of J.M. Jarre or the
movies don't disgust me.
- WHAT DO YOU MOST HATE IN LIFE?
The time that passes too quickly, the city (except to make the skateboard), the
subway, the noise, the pollution, them stupid, the no respect of them others,
the precipitation, the defeatism, etc. etc. (list no exhaustive).
- WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE?
Peter Gabriel, Laurent Voulzy, Bomb the Bass, Jean Michel Jarre (I collect...),
Deep Forest, Michel Berger, Mc Solaar, Chris Huelsbeck, Alain Souchon, Maniacs
of Noise, Rob Hubbard, Mike Oldfield, Mylène Farmer, Genesis, Mozart, Céline
Dion, IAM, Moby, Laurie Anderson,... On the whole, everything that is
synthetic, rap, or " warbling "; some classics. Bonus: I add the music
soundchip and a lot of modules techno-trans-goa-rave-grove - synthetic (to
scratch the useless mentions).
- WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES?
C'est arrivé près de chez vous, Thelma & Louise, Aliens, Matrix, X-Files,
Cyrano of Bergerac, Top Secret, Is there a cop..., Hat melon and boots of
leather (the first set in N&B and in v.o., with brunette Miss Peel), Contact,
Star Wars, etc.
- WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TELEVISION BROADCASTS?
They afflict me at the moment all. I especially look at the Simpsons, if one
can speak of a broadcast television! I adored " anywhere elsewhere " when
Antoine De Caune made the stupid with bzz bzz the fly, Raoul Dick-of-wood,
Gérard language-of-bitch, or again Aquarium.
- WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE DEMOS?
Mathematica (C64), Sonolumineszenz (most terrifying of the Falcon demos),
Nexus-7 (Andromeda-Amiga), there is some of others on CPC, Atari XL, or same
PC, but I don't remember any more the name...
- SINCE HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU OWN AN ATARI?
Since 1988 I believe. I started with an Atari 520 ST with alim and external
disk reader.
- WHAT IS YOUR MATERIAL CONFIGURATION?
Falcon 030 16Mhz 14Mo RAM + RVB, IDE 60Mo, EZDRIVE 135Mo, Modem 33600, small
ampli,.
- WHAT DO YOU MAINLY DO WITH YOUR COMPUTERS?
On C64 I contemplate demos, and I listen to the musics of the SID. On Falcon I
contemplate some demos, I listen to the SID, and especially I program.
- WHAT ARE YOUR PROJECTS?
Ouh there... in data processing: - I work currently on a Mpeg player Layer 3
with STGHOST - to Make a new version of FlaySID that kills the death (that
stands out) - to Make a player hallucinating to the Yamaha (that also stands
out) - to Make an emulator resonant Atari XL (Pokey) - to Make a game (arcade
or adventure) - to Participate in demos
- WHAT DO YOU THING ABOUT CODING PARTIES?
I adore. Even though often, I have too many things to see, I don't make the
quarter of that that I had decided! One recovers the accustomed, it is cool.
Even though I find nevertheless that that engraves a few too many CD during
these codings (especially in generalistic ones).
- WHAT ARE YOUR LAST REALIZATIONS?
FlaySID is my last and unique really known realization. It is about an emulator
resonant Commodore 64 for Falcon. Ha if, I also made STE2FALC before, a "
emulator " ST for Falcon. On the whole, I am in radius emulation/sound... and
it is not finished!
- WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE SITUATION OF THE PC IN INFORMATICS NOWADAYS?
The PC makes what it wants. What disturbs me in the PC that is that one only
sees him. He/it kills the Amiga, Atari, Sinclair, Amstrad, Acorn, etc. (even
though some constructors killed themselves themselves to have known how to
manage the situation). Otherwise, it is a machine like an another one, with
his/her/its qualities and shortcomings, a lot of software beacons, that
his/her/its success transforms in enormous pump to American fric. This is not
very unsavory.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT PIRACY?
Today, on Falcon the word piracy only has little sense. On PC, there is some
surely, but I am not held informed. I distinguish several piracies, even though
the result is the even: authors who wish to be paid for their work are not it.
-> Industrial " piracy " where pirates make pay itself/themselves for their " work " (I want to sheaf)
-> Piracy " of gentleman everybody " where each uses without too to think about what he/it makes since he/it has the soft (I have a little the qualm, but that goes better nevertheless).
I exercised and I exercise this second forms passive of the piracy (we don't veil the face...). Well on, I don't like too bus it respect the work of programmers (to part some that are played it a few finances, while doing to pay for all and whatever). Also, I tried to the maximum to reduce the number of software copied on my hard, and to buy those of which I the most often use (...when it is even possible). But I am not perfected. If one day I make a commercial software, I should accept the piracy of them others as I exercise it me. I would tell myself that it is a popular reaction shape to a society where all cashed himself...
- HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF THE ATARI COMPUTERS?
I am not utopian: so Atari is born again, that supposes that an alternative gap
to them PC has been found to the good moment. Either the new Atari looks to
concurencer for the PC (unthinkable in the present conditions), either it
benefits an annoyance of the PC users or Mac, of a weariness, and it surfs on
it " reactionary " wave, as there adding a revolutionary technical aspect
(optic processors, utilization of one same drunk by several processors
simultaneously,...). It would be about therefore, at least in a first time, of
a restricted diffusion following a heavy investment, with them perspectives of
profitability more that hazardous. Atari commençerait therefore like a PME
indebted! Without counting that it would be necessary to probably foresee
nearby another beneficiary activity because, we don't delude, this
microcomputing would be in a way a luxury of passionés for passionéses. To less
that he/it exists some mad passionéses, brawlers and lucky (that it is the
novelty of years 90) as in years 1970. Is it difficult to start such a project,
no? For me, Atari died. Alone marks it belongs to Hasbro again I believe, and
very sensible, makes always shine an all small flame. I always ask myself on to
become he of researchers and labos of Atari where of machines as her Jaguar 2
was under development... The machines Atari has their future henceforth between
hands of their users. It is them (us) that patch up them and maintain them to
level. So much that we will be there, they will continue to exist. But will
resist us to them Atari? I see that personally, I get tired of the Atari
because I know it too well, and there is not any real novelty that appears (to
change the central processor, that doesn't change the architecture and
copros...). I need novelty, because I try to create. And to create the nine, it
is necessary to know how to renew his/her/its box from time to time to tools...
To conclude, I would say that in my opinion, the machines Atari is rejoining
the paradise of computers, next to the Amstrad or other Apple II, gradually.
This is not a pain, it is in her logic of things. What puts problem that is
that there are not descendants that take the relief, and no matter that the
mark is Atari or other.
- WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT CLONES (MILAN, PHENIX, HADES...) ?
I don't have them means to pay them to me, and I don't want of it. As I said
it, I need to change air.
- DO YOU THINK YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MACHINE LATER?
Yes. I burst desire to program some RISC processors. The RISC PC Of Acorn makes
me drool. This machine is brilliant. No matter if the constructor closed, these
machines have a beautiful potential. Even though I have a few of them laughs to
row to find of them software or of them accessories. But if I want that all is
simple, it is PC or Mac, and that told me honestly anything. The easiness, that
can be dangerous...
- ANYTHING TO ADD?
The microcomputing as we knew him in years 1970 and 1980 is disappearing.
Finished the time where each could patch up, to understand and eventually, to
master his/her/its computer. Today, him data processing took the flight that
was promised him. But more that goes, less his/her/its users know how she/it
functions. A computer becomes a limps magic like a television, it is
double-edged: everybody can use some, but less and less people know what
happens in really. Pouf I push, pouf I consume, pouf I extinguish. The mouse
and buttons of the graphic interfacing replaced the remote control. During this
time, one can make what one wants by behind: it was the subliminal pictures for
the television, it will be like that the automatic denouncements by modem would
have been the case with these first versions of windows 95. Boarf, it is
anecdotal... but in the principle, it is preoccupying very. It is necessary of
sand grains to know how to block this mechanics (too much) lubricated well. The
users Atari is a career of sand in strength! And if they don't preserve their
machine, I hope that he/it will preserve and will know to transmit the mind
Atari in the future! Stay Atari!
- THANK YOU.
