Tests of demos for
FALCON

By The Beast

An actuality very poor Falcon side. One cannot say that 1999 either the year of the Falcon, it would be rather the year of the ST! Being given the phenomenal quantity of demos and intros ST that I tested all only, I won't speak here of intros 128 octets or 4 KB. Fans of Avena demos, and they are numerous, will be happy to know that Candyman/Cream has patched the Sonolumineszenz as well as the preview of the Binliner so that they turn on a SVGA in 100 Hz mode. You will find all that on the site of DHS. A small word by the way of the notation: she/it is identical to the ST demos tests.

DEMOS OF THE " ERROR IN LINE 1999 "

Alive - by FUN - all Falcon

The FUN group, to show that they are always active on Falcon, presented a demo to the EIL. As you will be able to note it, this demo is distinctly better that all those that they had presented until then.

The technical level is quite acceptable. The technical effects link themselves to the rhythm of music techno: scroll multidirectional, enormous logo that scrolls as well as the bottom of screen, objects in 3D wire with effects of self-timing, etc. routines 3D are fast enough, including for the lightsourced " objects " (a tore, of them prickles, a bottle...). If the first mapped tunnel is somewhat disappointing, since tricks of programming are visible to the naked eye, the second is endowed of a very beautiful metallic texture, well that a few pixellisées. Some objects are original, such this cube whose texture is the one of gruyere. Graphics are pleasant, as well as music. An important effort has been carried on the design. In brief, it is here about one of the best Falcon demos of 1999.

ATS - by Dead Hackers Society - Falcon RGB/VGA + copro

When one knows the level of DHS concerning demos, the rod is placed very low: misfortune to them if they serve us a crappy demo. Fortunately, this is not the case. Far from that.

This demo proposes some unpublished technical effects. The textured tunnel of the beginning scrolls vertically, and his/her/its extremity, that is very luminous, provoke a very pleasant visual effect when the text (the DHS logo and credits) passes over it. The very pretty bumpmapping is a model of the kind since it applies on a picture of a young woman in distortion, with a very beautiful effect of transparency. Graphics are very good, they are the work of agent -t -, that one doesn't present anymore. The main music, very bourrin, is the work of 505 and Toodeloo, that of the good, I say you. The design is to the appointment, DHS obliges. Music is synchronized with the special effects. Cherry on the cake, it is as the mark of factory of DHS: the demo can be launched since doesn't import what resolution and since doesn't import which operating system (to Linux part, of course), it will restore the system without once finished no problem. One remains however on his/her/its hunger with the final screen, I have as the impression that authors wanted to make a few more of them... A very good demo to procure itself/themselves most urgently.

Ego-demo - by No Crew - all Falcon

I didn't understand that very well that he/it happens in this demo. She/it is composed practically that of zooms on photos (that represent of façades of stores, a keyboard ST, a bottle of vodka...), with a logo EGO TV in top on the right. Music techno is repetitive to wish, with some passages very bourrins. And then all stops on a stationary screen, that possesses a nasty melting besides. I don't see the interest to possess this demo, that makes 2,6 MB besides... the truth is elsewhere, as would say the other.

Modest - by Mind Design - all Falcon RGB

Mind Design comes back with a demo of good invoice, but well too SHORT !!! Yet, the technical level is rather good, the proposed tunnel texturé made part of most beautiful that we saw until now on Falcon: he/it is fast and beautiful. The screen that proposes the bumpmapping is also he very successful, although the picture is stationary. After the traditional bobsleds, a small voxelball makes his/her/its apparition. It is about a pâté of pixels texturés that turns on himself. The last screen gives credits for each part, with a capture of screen for each. Music is synchronized, but graphics are too rare! A good small demo, too short, alas.

Revertant - by Cobra - Falcon RGB 14 MB

I don't know what he/it happened at Cobra, now they start making demos as on PC, with immensely of effects 3D. This demo yet begins well, with pretty graphics and a tunnel mapped in light distortion. Without speaking of sentences that don't mean to say but that demomakerses especially love (" you are my angel ", " come from above to bring me love ", etc.). Unfortunately, all degrades himself thereafter because effects 3D are graphically very beautiful and successful, but that stops there. I never saw 3D as NIT!!! The demo crawls miserably. Besides, music seems to me to be a few foireuses since alone sees it of left wants to spit the sound well. The demo ends in full middle, according to the coder that comes from them TOS 4.02 and it would be necessary to launch the demo under MagiC to eliminate this bug. Me, I want well, but I have the TOS 4.04 and that always plants under MagiC! Other thick defect: the demo takes the trifle of 5,6 MB on the hard drive, all that for not big thing finally. In brief, here is a demo that looks like a present PC demo: it is beautiful, but if you launch it on a 386, that rows... A demo to forget, unless to have a (good) card accélératrice.

Bugwuerst - by Nun - all Falcon

Here is the first of fakes demos presented to the EIL 99. This one starts with the apparition of a frankfurter, follow-up by a bizarre enough loading screen with the text, two static circles and the mouse moves all alone to the screen. And then that plants. I don't know why, I yet launched the demo since an own configuration (CONTROL key to the starting), in different resolutions, but nothing to make. Too bad:)

Ibiza - by Poets Bombay of - all Falcon

" Poets Bombay " of? Again a parody of the Poets group " Decay " of, would say me you. Impossible to know that hides himself behind this ridiculous name. This fake demo carries his/her/its name well: all is can, as well graphics that music! It is a demo that wants himself humorous, besides she/it begins while displaying " Dysentry Packer " in top of the screen. Graphics to two bullets follow each other them some to them others, but music techno remains nevertheless synchronized with the demo. The landed themes are those of the feast, the sex and Ibiza. The demo is enough marrantes to watch, eventually. She/it ends by a vertical scrolltext that superimposes himself on a picture that represents a polluted sea. Then an explosion occurs, the sentence " Be offended " is displayed and one returns to the Gem. A good small friendly demo.

Tiny Toon - by TNB - all Falcon

A fake demo that carries his/her/its name well: one believes, in the beginning, that it is about a way of emulator Game boy, proposing the game Tiny Toons. Besides the soundtrack is very alike. Alas! Once the finished music, 2 bombs are displayed, accompanied by a sly laughter. Makes well!

DEMOS OF THE " RETURN TO THE SOURCE 2 "

64K - by Blue - all Falcon

Blue is back with this intro 64 KB that weighs in fact 96 KB (it will be necessary that he explains me, there). This intro takes one of the three parts of the demo that it had presented the last year. After a Blue logo, several logos of the Greuh group are displayed in true color, and the screen scrolls with an exemplary fluidity. The all with a sample very techno, it goes from one. Yes but voilà, this intro doesn't bring anything of nine in relation to the demo that it had programmed the last year...

ScrexBall - by Blue - all Falcon

It is about in fact of the adaptation on ST of the Falcon demo that Blue had presented the last year. This screen only makes a thing: he/it shows a composed scrolltext of small bullets. To one moment, the scroll does a rotation, but it is the only really technical effect. Blue should have added something else, like a logo, a music, of transitions... A pity.

TKC II - by Blue - all Falcon

For once, Blue proposes us an unpublished screen. This intro of 4 KB proposes a pretty rotozoom on a fractal, accompanied by a small rabbit in bitmap, drawn by the big Custard. A good small intro that, it is necessary to underline it, restore the Gem desktop cleanly.
